Best Kiteboarding Locations
Cabarete Kite Beach has been officially designated as the main kiteboarding beach, and it considered by many as the only place to go. It is the beach where the Kiteboarding World Championships have been held each year since 2001.
There are however some other locations east and west of Kite Beach, particularly Bozo Beach. La Boca de Yasica is another location, boasting flat water all of the time. It also has the added attraction of being ideally located for you to surf the trade winds 6 kilometers back to Cabarete Kite Beach when you’re done.
Another fine location is the extremely popular Encuentro Beach which is an ideal morning kiteboarding location, although if you like to mix it with some wave riding in the afternoons when the winds pick up, you’ll be in your element. Just make sure you’re up to it, experience-wise.
Experience kiteboarders can also hit La Punta de Cabarete . . . from here is it a top run to head downwind to Encuentro, Kite Beach or Bozo Beach. And don’t forget, local knowledge is king, and lucky for you the locals are happy to point out other fine location for kiteboarding in Cabarete.
Another spot for experienced kiters is La Punta de Cabarete from where it is great to start and then go downwind to Bozo Beach, Kite Beach or Encuentro.
How to Get to Kite Beach
It’s easy to reach Kite Beach from Cabarete itself . . . simply walk along the beach for around 20 minutes, or grab a lift on a motorcycle taxi (their local name is moto concho) for around 40 pesos.

Better Safe Than Sorry
It is always the best policy to have some kiteboarding lessons if you aren’t terribly experienced, and the best place to get them is at the Extreme Hotel in their Kite Lounge. Extreme Hotel is located at the very centre of Kite Beach and is the most handy location for setting out no matter which location you decide to surf.
It is way not recommended to go kiteboarding in Cabarete without having some lessons first, because even in the kiteboarding capital of the world, you need at a minimum some local knowledge about currents, reefs and prevailing conditions.
